ITEM DONATION

For almost fifty years, the Society has collected and preserved historically significant artifacts and documents that help tell the story of Hanover County. The collection is maintained in a secure, temperature-controlled environment in archival files and containers and is well-catalogued but has not been available to the general public.

One of the Society’s long-term goals is to open a facility that will allow visitors and researchers access to our collection. In the meantime, we are working to introduce an online gallery of Society accessions. It may take some time to complete the digitization of our inventory, but it will be worth the wait!

The Society remains committed to uncovering more of Hanover’s history of all eras. We want, and need, your help. Perhaps you have items of interest that you would consider sharing, such as:

  • Advertisements
  • Bible records
  • Household Items
  • Deeds
  • Diaries & Ledgers
  • Flags & Banners
  • Furniture
  • Jewelry
  • Maps
  • Military memorabilia
  • Paintings & Drawings
  • Portraits
  • Photographs
  • Plats/Surveys
  • Political Ephemera
  • Textiles
  • Tools & Implements
  • Toys
  • Wills
The Society’s Curatorial Committee will meet with you and review potential gifts to determine whether we can provide appropriate preservation and care for the items. If your potential gift is paper, it is no longer necessary for families to relinquish their historical documents or photographs forever. Digital technology allows us to make and store images that are exact replicas of the originals.
