On Sunday, June 25, 2017, HCHS members and guests convened at Fork Church in Doswell, where they were regaled by Patrick Henry, as portrayed by John Tucker, III of the Parsons' Cause Foundation.

The event began with words from Society President Faye Wade, Society Vice President Arthur H. Taylor, III, Fork Church's Reverend Nik Forti and church historian Alastair McDonald. The present Fork Church was built in 1735 to replace a chapel on the same site that dated from 1722. Please click here to read all about this fascinating church's history.

Patrick Henry's stirring oration transported his audience to 1793, and focused on his time in Hanover County, his participation in the Parsons' Cause case that was heard at the historic Hanover County Courthouse in 1763, and his famous Give me liberty, or give me death! speech at the Second Virginia Convention, held at St. John's Church in Richmond in 1775.

"I had seventeen children;
George Washington? Zero.
Now, who do you think was the real
'Father of our country?' "

Upon the completion of his oratory, Patrick Henry entertained questions from the audience. Art Taylor presented Mr. Tucker with a book from the Society's collection. Some 38 souls attended this event, and all enjoyed Mr. Tucker's powerful performance.

Photographer Robert Szabo was on hand to shoot a video of this event, selections of which can be viewed at the Hanover County Historical Society's Facebook page!
