The Society is pleased to post transcription of the medical journal, 1804-1815, kept by Charles Dabney Morris of The Meadow in Caroline County. His meticulous records of patient visits and treatments in Hanover, Caroline and Louisa will be valuable to researchers. Descendants have preserved the original journal for generations, and the current caretakers have asked the Society to make this information available for the first time. A glossary of medical terms used in this journal can be found below on this page.

Researchers are welcome to view for personal research, but the information is not to be used for profit.

The entries are presented as recorded in the journal and are generally, but not entirely, alphabetical. The search feature gives results across all columns. Transcriber Notes, noted as “Added, ” are listed to the right of the doctor’s Journal Notes.
